No Poverty
Post Income Lever is the first sub-program of GAAS Africa's flagship Sustainable Agenda Promotion (SAP 17), dedicated to advancing United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 1 -- No Poverty. The program is built around a practical principle: poverty reduction becomes more sustainable when people have the knowledge, skills, opportunities and productive capacity to generate and improve their own incomes.
Across Africa, many individuals and households possess the determination to improve their economic circumstances but face barriers such as limited access to skills, employment opportunities, business knowledge, finance, markets and relevant information. Post Income Lever seeks to help address these barriers by creating pathways through which vulnerable people, particularly young people, women and economically disadvantaged community members, can develop sustainable sources of income. Rather than treating poverty only as a social condition requiring assistance, the program approaches it as a development challenge that can also be addressed through economic participation, capability development and opportunity creation.
From Poverty Challenges to Income Opportunities
Post Income Lever will provide participants with practical knowledge and opportunities in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, employability, vocational development and micro-enterprise development. Participants can be introduced to income-generating opportunities that are appropriate to their skills, community resources and local economic conditions. The program will also encourage participants to identify problems within their communities and transform viable solutions into products, services or enterprises.
Through training sessions, workshops, mentorship, community outreach and partnerships, GAAS Africa will help participants understand how to develop an idea, assess an opportunity, prepare a simple business plan, manage finances, identify customers, market products and services, and build responsible and sustainable enterprises. Where appropriate, GAAS Africa will seek partnerships that can provide access to technical assistance, markets, equipment, finance or other resources.

Entrepreneurship Development
Helping participants identify viable business opportunities and develop entrepreneurial capabilities.
Financial Literacy
Building practical knowledge of budgeting, saving, responsible borrowing, financial planning and basic business finance.
Livelihood Training
Developing practical and vocational skills that can lead to employment, self-employment or community-based economic activities.
Micro-Enterprise Support
Helping emerging entrepreneurs strengthen their small businesses through mentorship, business development knowledge and access to relevant networks and opportunities.
Job Readiness
Preparing participants for employment through workplace skills, communication, CV development, interview preparation and professional development.
